Two sculpted head maquettes, one male and one female, sculpted for general facial reference. Affectionately nicknamed, “Hilde” and “Wolf“ for their early Weimar Republic era aesthetics. Wolf, notably, also has a facial scar and partial amputation of his left ear— perhaps a young veteran of the Great War?
Still Life with Maquette and Deer Skull, Oil, 2022
A still life experimenting with warm and cold light sources and how each falls upon different surfaces, such as a tarnished silver cup, the inside of a deer’s ethmoid air cells, and the opalescence in an ammonite. This painting also features the maquette head, “Wolf,” before his hair was re-sculpted.
